Race was not a factor. I got popular because I basically found kids that didn't have a lot of friends, and started organizing social activities with them. They'd tell their friends about me because it made them look cool. They'd introduce me to their other friends, they'd think I was cool, and it kind of grew from there. With that being said, it does take money to grow a social circle. You gotta have cool clothes, and spend money on the social events that you organize.
As far as gaining a reputation, trust me, women don't care. They all pretend like they do, but an attractive guy is an attractive guy. I believe that I once posted a story about a girl who hated my guts, told all of her friends that I was a piece of shit, and then she ended up sucking my dick. Women can hate you all that they want, but if you're an attractive guy, you're an attractive guy.

Some women REALLY care about your reputation, and those are likely the ones that are going to want only a relationship from you. Sometimes this can prove to be REALLY difficult if you end up wanting to date one of these women, but it's not an insurmountable task to convince them what you're about if you are honest. I've found that honesty is key.
You shouldn't be crass or blunt about it, but if a girl is interested in you and you tell her that you're not ready or looking for a relationship and you make it very clear what you do want and that you're interested in getting to know her better and have a good time, then it's really surprising how well you can get along with people and not have them all claim you're a slut or a player.
It's not what you do (sleep with multiple women and not have a girlfriend), it's HOW you do it. You should choose your words and their placement carefully, but straight out lying won't get you very far.
